What a Year!

I've had a few years in my life that I thought, as they came to a close, I really could have done without.  The year my mom had cancer was one.  The year I lost my best friend was another.  The list goes on...

I've also had a few years where I felt they couldn't have gone more perfectly.  The year I was given a surprise birthday party was one.  The year I made a new best friend was another.  The list goes on...

There's Just Something About a Skirt...

I love wearing skirts.

No, I mean, I LOVE wearing skirts!

Like, really, really LOVE wearing skirts!

I don't all the time.  I do a lot of biking in the summer and I've discovered that wearing a pair of (not tight-fitting) jeans can be more modest than a skirt in that situation.  I also have a trampoline in my backyard and jumping on it is a good way to excersise while spending time with your little brothers and sisters.  I discovered that this is another situation that skirts aren't always the best option.  :-)  Don't ask.

A Faithful God

"I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.
We will not conceal them from their children,
But tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,
And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done.
For He established a testimony in Jacob
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which He commanded our fathers
The they should teach them to their children,

The 1st Christian generation of my family with the 3rd believing generation.

That the generation to come might know,
even the children yet to be born,
That they may arise and tell them to their children,
That they should put their confidence in God
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments."
~Psalm 78:2-7

Thanksgiving Day... and More!

This Thanksgiving was simple.

That's the way I like it.

Unlike most years in the past, we celebrated this holiday at home with just us.  It was so relaxing... so laid-back actually that we FORGOT the mashed potatoes till about five minutes before eating!  Everything else was wonderful though!

Enjoy these holiday pics!

Thankfulness... Looking back at this week

These past couple days have been a whirlwind of happenings, leaving me with hardly any time to check my email, let alone update my blogs! I'm sitting in the kitchen at the little breakfast table/nook listening to my sister name off movies she'd like to watch tonight and half-watching my dad as he drains the turkey frame for our turkey-frame soup that we'll be able to enjoy on Sunday!

So, a recap of the three week-days before Thanksgiving: (warning, this will be a log-ish post, but fun since I have pictures to go with Wednesday!)

Little Leaf

I adore this picture.
I was playing around with the camera one day and fell in love.
Bright red leaf
Green, yellow, and brown grass.

It's C-c-cold Outside!

I'm a cold person.
No, not cold-hearted.
I'm not Ebenezer Scrooge.
(I love "A Christmas Carol"!)

"Everygirl", Part Two

For the second part of my “Everygirl” series, I wanted to do an interview with the most special, amazing woman in my life: my mom!  Her story is a testimony of God’s love.  Enjoy this peek into a woman’s heart and how God can turn a life completely around!

Wednesday Wardrobe

I won't deny it.  I won't even try.  I like clothes.  That's a good thing, I think, since I have no choice but to wear them.  :-)
What's frustrating for me though is that good clothes are hard to find.  Finding good and modest clothes is even harder.  And then when you try to find good, modest, and affordable clothes it's nearly impossible in some places.  I know shopping isn't going well when I leave Kohls with only a scarf in my shopping bag.  But, sadly, that's sometimes all I can find that's decent in the entire building.  Getting creative has been a MUST with me through the years as I endeavor to dress in a way that sets a good example to my sisters in Christ, doesn't cause my brothers in Christ is stumble, and honors my Savior.

What are little girls made of, made of?
What are little girls made of?

Sugar and spice
And everything nice.
That's what little girls are made of.

Everygirl, Part One

One of my favorite songs is Michael W. Smith's "Old Enough to Know", which was written back in the mid-eighties.  The music (which is, yes, definitely eighties!) is wonderful and the lyrics touched my heart.  If you haven't heard this song before, I would encourage you to listen to it!  The whole album (The Big Picture) is great, but this song has really stood out to me the most. Here are the lyrics and also my thoughts following:

It's Winds-day!

Hum dum dum ditty dum
Hum dum dum
Oh the wind is lashing lustily
And the trees are thrashing thrustily
And the leaves are rustling gustily
So it's rather safe to say
That it seems that it may turn out to be
It feels that it will undoubtedly
It looks like a rather blustery day, today
It sounds that it may turn out to be
Feels that it will undoubtedly
Looks like a rather blustery day today.

Don't You Want to Get Married?!!!

I can still remember the day I was asked that question by a confused woman when she realized I wasn't dating.

Still Waiting?
I had my sister call me an "Old Maid" the other day.  Jokingly, if course.  I know, I know... I AM one who has gone all through Jr. and Sr. Highschool without a boyfriend.  I know I haven't even argued with my parents about wanting to date!  I know I have saved my first kiss and intend to keep on saving it until my wedding day.  I know I'm strange.  I know I'm in the minority (a very teeny minority).

This is where the sarcastic side of me wants to ask: "And your point is... what?"

This week has been glorious so far.
I've spent the last two mornings studying and reading at our local library, which is so peaceful!  I'm taking a Bible class through our church (which is a remote learning center) and am enjoying it a lot so far!  I had the house to myself most of yesterday (most of my younger siblings have art lessons on Tuesdays!), so I spent some time cleaning the house, browsing our antique store in town, and getting item forms to fill out so I can sell the jewelry I make there at the store!  Two of my younger sisters and I have spent some time together excersising... which usually sends us into fits of laughter.  Having two teenaged sisters can be so halarious sometimes... we have way too much fun together.  :-)

Stop and Smell...

Busy, busy, busy.
Yet not.
Some days feel non-stop.
Others so full of nothing that its overwhelming.

In Love With My Jesus

I have the heat and the cold to make my cheeks glow,
The sunlight to bring a sparkle of delight to my eyes,
The gentle breezes and blowing winds to caress my face,
And my Savior’s arms are always holding me…

The Waiting Game

Her heart raced. She felt like everyone could hear its frantic and heavy beating. He was here. He was even more handsome than she’d remembered. He looked over in her direction and their eyes met. He smiled. Her heart stopped. He held out his hand to shake hers and spoke a few words of greeting. She hoped he couldn’t see how nervous and excited she was. After a moment of casual conversation, they parted ways. They would see each other again soon. This next week they would be working side by side along with many other people their age.

Life: A Costume Party

How many of you have been to a costume party? How many of you have worn a mask as part of a disguise? How many of you played (or still play) dress up?

I'm not ON the road!

"What are you doing?!" called slightly perturbed Natalie to little Samantha. The young girl was standing on the curb, right beside the busy street.

Samantha looked at her older sister in what seemed to be complete innocence.

"Mom and dad have told you not to go out on the road!" Natalie said in frustration, signaling for her sister to come towards her.

"I'm not on the road!" Samantha replied in defiance.
